✦ Synopsis

It 1s shown that the binding encrgtes (BEf) measured with respect to the Fermi levei differ from the binding energies (BE,,) referred to the vacuum level by a measurable instrument constant. This constant also enables the determinatron of the sample work function from the study of the secondary electron emission onset.
