✦ Synopsis
We find several conditions on a locally compact Abelian group G necessary and sufficient that G + , the group G in the topology inherited from its Bohr compactification, is realcompact. We show further for such G that every continuous real-valued function from a closed subgroup of G + extends continuously over G + ; when in addition G is discrete, every continuous function from a subgroup of G + to a complete metric space extends continuously over G + . These results respond to several of the questions posed by E. K. van Douwen [Topology and Its Applications 34 (1990), 69 91].
