✦ Synopsis
In this paper the results of a theoretical and experimental work on water desalination by reverse osmosis in an unstirred batch system are discussed.
All the experiments were performed using cellulose acetate membranes in a low pressure range (less than 7 atm). Sodium and calcium chloride solutions, at various concentrations, were tested. Plots of experimental flow rate and dimensionless salt concentration vs time are reported.
A detailed analysis of experimental results was made on the basis of the different theories available in the literature. These were also compared with the analytical results of a new model proposed by the authors
