Abstract
The possibility of γ‐ray induced polymerization for acrylic monomers with different mesogenic groups is studied. The irradiation of the monomers in the condensed phase shows the competition of decomposition and polymerization in the initial stage of the irradiation process. The influence of the phase state and chemical structure of initial monomers as well as irradiation conditions on the kinetics of γ‐ray induced polymerization and characteristics of resultant polymers is shown and discussed. For irradiation doses below 1 kGy, the phase behavior of monomer‐polymer systems depends on their miscibility below and above the melting point of the initial monomer and is quite different for the monomers investigated.
