We have studied the reaction between arsonium salts of [I] This work was supported by the Science Research Council type ( 3 ) and benzaldehyde in tetrahydrofuran solution, using n-butyllithium to generate the ylide. The results are summarized inTable 1 and clearly show that electron-donating substit

✦ Synopsis
A parametrization of the "electronic" and "steric" ligand influences has been described by T o l m ~n [ ~~. Using this method the first examples for the dominance of steric ligand influences could be found in calorimetric investigations on platinum(r~)[~"] and nickel(0) complexes13b1. We have now established that these ligand parameters are suitable not only for the qualitative estimation but also for the quantitative determination of the "steric" and "electronic" ligand influences. This is illustrated here for the reaction enthalpy of the association of Lewis bases to di-p-methylbis[l -methyl-1-3-q-(2-butenyl)]dinickel

## Abstract The regiospecific synthesis of 3,4‐disubstituted furans and thiophenes is reviewed. Our initial approach used 3,4‐bis(tri‐__n__‐butylstannyl)furan as a building block, which led to many structurally diverse 3,4‐disubstituted furans. Another avenue was explored by using 3,4‐bis(trimethyl
