✦ Synopsis

A method f o r t h e p r e p a r a t i o n o f deuterium l a b e l l e d unsymm e t r i c a l hydrazines was developed. This method was used t o prepare l-benzyl-2-methyl-*H1-hydrazine hydrobromide and l-benzyl-zH~-2-methylhydrazine hydrobromide, analogs o f t h e cancer chemotheraputic agent procarbazine. These compounds were then used t o prepare t h e corresponding l a b e l l e d benzyl-(0") and ("0)-azoxymethane isomers. A method was developed whereby t h e deuterium l a b e l l e d azoxy isomers were separated by reversed phase semi-preparative HPLC.
