To the Editor:

I read with great interest the paper of Greenberg et al. [1996] in this Journal on a multidisciplinary clinical study of Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS). I was surprised to see that the authors did not mention among their 42 references that by Cabral de Almeida et al. [1989] concerning the observation of ophthalmologic anomalies in SMS. These authors called attention to the common ophthalmologic abnormalities found in this syndrome. This paper was cited by Moncla et al. [1991], which is one of the references in Greenberg et al. [1996]. Since the intention of Greenberg et al. [1996] was to make a thorough review of the multidisciplinary aspects of SMS, I wish to remind the authors of this clinical contribution, especially keeping it in its historical context.
