✦ Synopsis

The use of vicinal H-Ca-Ct-15N coupling constants as an indicator of the corresponding pep. tide dihedral angle, $, has been an attractive possibility to students of peptide conforma-tionjly2 Although correlations have been proposed that predict readily observable magnitudes for JHN at some angles, 394 the couplings estimated from actual spectra have been small, less than 2 Hz. This has sometimes been attributed to conformational averaging of positive and negative values.

C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations were determined in a prospective fashion in 50 children with malignant disease. In 35 children with active and aggressive disease, but without signs of infection, no significant increase in CRP was detected. Neither did aggressive cytostatic therapy (70 course
