β¦ Synopsis
Reflections on Bob James by a friend
I first met Bob at the back end of a lecture room in a New York Hotel over 32 years ago. I had just completed a seminar on implants. He was interested in these new devices and said that where he practiced, in St. George, Bermuda, he could never learn all of the complexities that were involved.
He was a man of average size, but I remember him as being big, expansive, open, ingenuous. I invited him to visit with me but he couldn't spare the time from his busy practice.
I didn't think I'd see him again, but four months later I wanted to take my family to Bermuda and couldn't get a reservation. I called Bob and though he treated several hotel managers and owners, Bermuda was packed to overflowing. "Come anyway," he said hopefully, "and Ruthie and I will find a place for Marilyn, who was pregnant, Jon, Andrew, and I arrived to be greeted by BoLsmiling as always-and a pack of Ruthie's family members, each driving a micro car, the largest that the lovely island permitted. Luggage was piled on you.
