โœฆ Synopsis

Numerous studies validate the standard practice of sentinel lymph node biopsy for patients with melanoma, and recent results from the Sunbelt Melanoma Trial highlight its important prognostic role in patients with thinner (1.0 mmโ€“2.0 mm) melanomas. Future studies including large, unselected groups of patients with thin melanoma undergoing thorough pathologic microstaging of both the primary and the sentinel node are necessary to address remaining questions and aid in refining selection criteria for this procedure.
