โฆ Synopsis
It is well known that if income distribution y is majorized by income distribution x, then y can be reached from x by a succession of well-defined transfers from the rich to the poor. It is of interest to characterize special cases of such systems of transfers that are bsimpleQ either in terms of number of transfers or of total amount transferred. Two such characterizations can be found in the economic literature. This paper provides a number of extensions and generalizations.

This paper contains a link between Probability Proportional to Size (PPS) sampling and interpolations of the classical Jensen inequality. We show that these interpolating inequalities are, in fact, special cases of the conditional Jensen inequality when applied over an appropriate probability space.
In this article, using the properties of the power mean, the author proves the inequality ' 1 2 2 valid for any two nonnegative quantities a and a . We shall begin our 1 2 consideration of results which are not as immediately apparent by dis-
