✦ Synopsis

The electrochemical reduction of 17 substituted 1, 2, 4, 5-tetrazines and 22 substituted 1, 2, 4triazines in dry acetonitrile has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry at a mercury drop electrode. The differences in E,,,-values for the reversible reduction to the corresponding anion radicals reflect the electronic influence of the substituent at different ring positions and give good linear correlations with rrconstants according to the Hammett equation.
