o-hydroxyghenyl benzyl ketones on treatment with dimethyl sulphoxide and powdered potassium hydroxide have been found to unciergo facile oxidation to the corresponding benzils. In a recent paper' from these laboratolies o-hydroxyphenyl benzyl ketones derived from resorcinol and phloro!glucinol units
