✦ Synopsis

A hybrid spatial di erencing scheme, which is able to reduce false scattering in arbitrarily speciÿed discrete directions of the discrete ordinates method and to retain false scattering in all other discrete directions, is proposed. In doing this, the discrete ordinate equations of the speciÿed directions are solved along their propagating paths, while the discrete ordinate equations of the other discrete directions are solved with a conventional spatial di erencing scheme (say, the diamond scheme). The hybrid scheme is veriÿed and applied to a collimated irradiation problem.
