✦ Synopsis

Photoinduced interfacial electron transfer from the conduction band of colloidal TiOl semiconductor particles to the cofacial dimeric viologen DV"+, an electron acceptor, occurs in the picosecond time domain. The interfacial electron-transfer rate constant is about 2x 10" SK' at pH 7.8. The reaction involves consecutive one-electron transfer to give the monoreduced DV3+ initially, followed by formation of DV '+ In acidic aqueous media (pH 3.5) transient picosecond absorption spectra show the .

formation of the monoreduced species only.
