I ground to the present issue of teen pregnancy in the United States and the state of Californiathat is, look at who is getting pregnant and the consequences of these pregnanciesthen move on to look at two programs that have been successful in dealing with some of the problems of teen pregnancy and parenting. One of these programs, the Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting (TAPP) Project, is in San Francisco, based at San Francisco General Hospital. The other is operated by the St. Paul Maternal and Infant Care Project in St. Paul, Minnesota. By focusing on these programs, and particularly TAPP, I want to show two tested ways in which cities can reduce teen pregnancies and minimize the negative consequences of teen parenthood.
