โœฆ Synopsis

Less than 2% of noninvasive (benign, encapsulated) thymomas recur after resection and usually take 1 of 2 different forms: (1) pleural implants, (2) localized mediastinal tumor. It is uncommon to have these patterns occur together, and mediastinal recurrence of a noninvasive thymoma may be amenable to a second complete resection as in 2 of our patients. Recognition of this natural history should prompt consideration of surgery since the outcome of radiotherapy is unpredictable.
