Between 1986 and 1991, 21 patients received liver grafts in our center for incurable alveolar echinococcosis (AE). The aim of this study was to analyze the long-term results in 15 of these 21 patients who survived more than 1 year after undergoing a liver transplantation (LT). The follow-up, mainly

Recurrence of Alveolar Echinococcosis in the Liver Graft after Liver Transplantation
To the Editor:
We recently reported our experience with liver transplantation (LT) in patients with alveolar echinococcosis (AE) (l), a disease caused by the intrahepatic growth of the larvae of the taenia Echinococcus multilocularis (2). At that time, we did not observe a parasitic recurrence in the liver graft. We have now obtained evidence for the development of new lesions in the transplanted liver of one of our patients.

We analyzed the features of 7 patients who underwent orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) from April 2001 to April 2006 for incurable hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (AE) in view of the technical features of the OLT, incidence, and type of complications, as well as patient survival. Recurrence of autoimmune liver disease in allografts has long been a topic of debate. We conducted a systematic review of the literature to examine the reported incidence of recurrence after liver transplantation of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and autoimmun
