John Crane expands with filtration acquisition
S miths Group, parent company of mechanical sealing systems specialist John Crane, is acquiring Indufil BV, a Dutch manufacturer of patented filtration systems used for rotating equipment in the petrochemical and power sectors.
Indufil, which will become part of the John Crane business, has manufacturing operations in Duiven and Ede, employs 95 people and had estimated sales of ยฃ26 million in 2007. The company benefits from a strong aftermarket for its products. Indufil will remain in the Netherlands and become the headquarters of the John Crane filtration systems business unit.
Mike Mansell, managing director of John Crane EAA, said: "This is a perfect illustration of our growth strategy in action as we seek to increase the scope of technology-based products associated with rotating equipment in our core markets. It will also increase our service offering to the aftermarket which can be supported through our existing global network."
Paul Cox, group managing director of Smiths Specialty Engineering, said: "This is a great example of our growth strategy of expanding John Crane's technology footprint. Indufil competes in a market worth in excess of ยฃ300 million. It sells a broad range of filtration systems, filter elements and associated products to customers who already use John Crane's technology and services for their equipment and facilities. With growth driven by the expansion of the turbine power generation sector and rising petrochemical consumption, there is great scope to increase the sale of Indufil products using the global John Crane network.
