An image reconstruction technique for echo-planar imaging is proposed. This technique combines odd and even numbered echo signals. It is thus possible to reduce the frequency of the time-modulated gradient used in echo-planar imaging by 50%, and to reduce its amplitude by almost 50% for sinusoidal g
