โœฆ Synopsis

I

THIS is the fifth of a series of specifications for the kinds of lime required by different chemical industries. The preceding four dealt, respectively, with lime used in cooking rags, in causticizing, and in the manufacture of sulphite pulp and glass. This deals with lime used in making glazes, enamels, and similar ceramic products. Ceramic whiting is really calcium carbonate, with or without a small amount of magnesium carbonate, but it performs the function of lime. It should contain not less than 97 per cent. of carbonates, and should be very fine, so that 98 per cent. of it will pass a No. 200 screen.
