โฆ Synopsis
The recognition of machined surfaces, or features for manufacturing, based on wireframe models has not been systematically attempted before. Much work that has been done for feature recognition is based on solid models.
There are, however, some advantages of using wireframe models to recognize machined surfaces for manufacturing because wireframe modelling systems and wireframe models are widely used in industry, especially in the metal removal machining engineering. This paper presents a new methodology and an algorithm for feature recognition based on wire frame models. The method detailed in the work can be used in pre-processing of CAD data for CAPP and CAM systems in forming technology.
