The proposals ยฑ covering everything from broadcasting to telecommunications ยฑ were originally outlined in the Convergence Green Paper of July 1998. The document includes a number of important initiatives to promote UK competitiveness and protect the consumer interest in the converging communications sectors.
50/99 (29 July 1999) The ITC announced changes to requirements for sign language on Digital Terrestrial Television which will be incorporated into the ITC Code of Subtitling, Sign Language and Audio Description on Digital Terrestrial Television.
49/99 (27 July 1999) The ITC announced modifications to the timing restrictions on the availability of pay-per-view films with a BFFC 18' rating for an experimental period of one year. Access will be permitted at any time of day, but only in respect of services in respect of which access is protected by mandatory PIN codes (or equivalent). All subscribers receive bills itemising the films ordered and the time shown.
