✦ Synopsis
Hematologists are well served by review journals of very high quality and there is therefore considerable credit due to Victor Hoffbrand for producing a new (fifth) volume of Recent Advances in Haematology which offers such an interesting and up-todate survey of the field in which we work. It is not surprising that several reviews emphasize recent developments in the molecular biology of hematological diseases (thalassemias, lymphomas and hemophilias) but the balance has been successfully kept appropriate to the clinical hematologist with practical reviews of new developments in the management of patients with iron overload, chronic myeloid leukemia, chronic lymphatic leukemia, lymphomas, thrombotic diseases, HIV infection and myeloma.
As in the previous volumes in this series the contributing authors have been selected not only for the distinction of their scientific work but for their capacity to communicate with the non-specialist;
