โœฆ Synopsis

The current state of the art in amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cell R & D efforts and their photovoltaic system applications are reviewed. Firstly, progress in a-Si alloy production technologies is overviewed with their significance as the champion material for a low cost solar cells. Secondly, some new approaches and key technologies to improve solar cell efficiency with stabilized performance by new amorphous silicon alloys and polycrystalline thin film for a-Si basis stacked solar cells are demonstrated. In the final part of paper, progress of the conversion efficiency in various types of amorphous silicon solar cells are surveyed and summarized.

We report an amorphous-microcrystalline transformation in an amorphous silicon surface induced by krypton-fluorine excimer laser radiation. An application of this result to produce a microcrystalline window on single-crystal and on amorphous silicon solar cells is discussed.

Thin-ยฎlm amorphous silicon alloy technology has emerged as a strong contender for providing low-cost photovoltaic products to meet the energy needs of the 21st century. World record 14 . 6% initial and 13 . 0% stable active-area conversion eciencies have been achieved for small-area solar cells in o

We present recent advances obtained at GSI in scaling-up multichamber fabrication of solar cells. We have successfully adopted the multichamber approach in the development of large-area compound curved semitransparent modules. For this application, a new semitransparent electrode was developed, toge
