โฆ Synopsis
The rebound strength (100 h/H) represents the percentage of impact energy returned in the form of reversible rebound height. It is difficult to correlate it simply and explicitly with other elastic parameters through theoretical analysis. The results, if determined under restricted conditions (of height of fall, size, shape, and preparation of the specimens), may bear some empirical relations with other parameters. The rebound-strength values have been plotted against the rank of coal and they fall within a band instead of on a line. This zonal dispersion cannot be attributed to experimental error alone; it arises partly from the principle of the rebound-strength measurement. The theoretical background of this measurement is discussed in a critical analysis.
