## Abstract The rearrangement of __p__‐tolyl acetate in nitrobenzene solution catalysed by aluminium chloride gives the __o__‐hydroxyketone only as rearrangement product. __o__‐Tolyl acetate under the same treatment yields mainly the __para__‐substituted hydroxyketone together with a small amount o
