✦ Synopsis

When PhzP(StNHOCOPh labelled with I~O in the C=O group (43% isotopic ennchment) reacts with NaOMe in MeOH. the products are unlabelled PhzP(O)NH 2 and labelled PhCO,Me (43% isotopic ennctmaent). By mlplication, the intermediate Ph2P(O)NHSCOPh that results from rearrangement (transposition of O and S atoms) has all the label in the C=O group and none in the P=O group.
