Abstract
1,4‐Polybutadiene was partially aralkylated with halogenated alkylbenzenes (4‐fluorotoluene, 2‐, 3‐, and 4‐chlorotoluene, 4‐bromotoluene, 2‐chloro‐p‐xylene, 2,4‐dichlorotoluene, 3,4‐dichlorotoluene) and dicumyl peroxide. The modified polymers were investigated by IR‐spectroscopy and degraded by olefin metathesis reaction with 4‐octene. The degradation products were separated by gas chromatography and identified by mass spectrometry. In addition to the aralkylation methylation of the 1,4‐polybutadiene occurred.
