## Abstract A high‐yielding alternative synthesis of the dppm‐bridged heteronuclear cluster RuOs~3~(μ‐H)~2~(CO)~9~(μ‐CO)~2~(μ‐dppm) (1) [dppm = bis(diphenylphosphanyl)methane] has been developed. Thermolysis of 1 resulted in dephenylation of both phosphane groups to afford the butterfly cluster RuO

✦ Synopsis
Protonation of the trinuclear anionic rhenium cluster [HNEt 3 ][Re 3 (µ-H) 3 (µ 3 -ampy)(CO) 9 ] (1) (Hampy = 2-amino-6methylpyridine) with [HOEt 2 ][BF 4 ] at low temperature leads to dihydrogen and the neutral unsaturated dihydride derivative [Re 3 (µ-H) 2 (µ 3 -ampy)(CO) 9 ]. The low thermal stability of this compound (it undergoes decomposition above 5 °C) has prevented its isolation as a pure solid. The compound [Re 3 (µ-H) 3 (CO) 12 ] is the major product obtained when the protonation of 1 is carried out under CO. Protonation of 1 in the presence of phosphanes or alkynes gives the neutral derivatives [Re 3 (µ-H) 2 (µ 3 -ampy)(PR 3 )(CO) 9 ] (2: R = Ph; 3: R = p-tolyl) or [Re 3 (µ 3 -H)(µ 3 -ampy)(µ-RC=CHRЈ)(CO) 9 ] (4: R = RЈ = [a] Departamento de Quı ´mica Orga ´nica e Inorga ´nica,
