✦ Synopsis


Molybdenum-Cobalt composite oxide f i l m s were prepared by t h e e v a p o r a t i o n of molybdenum t r i o x i d e on A f r e s h cleaved COO (100) s u r f a c e (Thickness = 10 A ) .

The MoO-,-coO i n t e r f a c e has been c h a r a c t e r i z e d simultaneously by r e f l e x i o n high e l e c t r o n d i f f r a c t i o n (RHEED) and Auger E l e c t r o n Spectroscopy (AES). The t h i n f i l m s t r u c t u r e and compoaition depend on t h e annealing temperature :

A f t e r a 300'C treatment, m e t a l l i c c o b a l t i s l a n d s n u c l e a t e a t t h e i n t e r f a c e t h i n f i l m -COO (100) and c r y s t a l l i z e w i t h t h e c u b i c FCC s y m e t r y . A f t e r a 700'C t r e a t m e n t c o b a l t molybdate ( a CoMoO4) i s l a n d s grow. The m e t a s t a b l e c r y st a l l i t e s are e p i t a x i e d on COO (100). c r y s t a l l i t e s w i t h t h e following structures J5 x 45 R 26 , P (2 x 21, P ( 2 x l ) , P ( 3 x 1) R 4S0, P ( 4 x 2) R 45'.
