✦ Synopsis


We have investigated the heat of pyrolysis and hydrogenation of coal as well as the gasification rate of char in H? at Pennsylvania State University during 1974-76, by using a number of coals with different ranks. The results on the effect of coal rank are briefly summarized in this paper, and the progress in this field during the past 14 years is evaluated. in particular. the factors that affect the gasi~cation reactivity of char and the effect of mineral matter on reactivity are discussed in detail.
