✦ Synopsis

a-Acetoxymethylpyrroles couple with a-free pyrroles in presence of Montmorillonite clay to form unsyrmnetrical pyrromethanes in excellent yields.

Symmetrical pyrromethanes were also prepared in a similar manner by clay catalysed self-condensation of a-acetoxynmthylpyrroles.
