✦ Synopsis

Treatment of platinum ~-acetylide complexes trans-Pt(PR3)/(C~CC~CR')2 (1) with two equivalents of Co2(CO)8 gave complexes trans-Pt( PR3 3) and ( 4), where R = Et or n-Bu and R' = H or SiMe 3, in high yields. The unsubstituted platinum-alkyne-cobalt complex (i.e. R'= H) reacted with alkenes (norbornylene or cyclopentene) to produce new platinum acetylides containing 2-cyclopentenone groups. All new compounds were characterized by i.r., u.v.-vis. and n.m.r. (1H, alp, laC) spectroscopies.
