✦ Synopsis
Aktract-Styrene in l@ihydrobenzene was quantitatively rednced to ethylbenzene by small amounts of iodine. This hydrogenation is also applicable to other a-phenyl substituted olefins, like l,l-diphenylethylene and 1-phenykyclohexene. No hydrogenation takes place with phenylacetylene, 2-phenylcyclohexene, and stilbene. The mechanism of this reaction is discussed.
