The reactions of 2-ethoxy-2-butenal N,N-dimethylhydrazone with azanaphthoquinones are described. Quinoline-5,8-diones led mainly to a regiospecific formation of furoquinoline derivatives, while isoquinoline-5,8-dione gave in the same conditions a 1,4-dihydro-1,6_diazaanthraquinone derivative.
