✦ Synopsis
Makrofol and cellulose nitrate detectors were used to study the reactions of 2.38 and 3.97 GeV 238U on heavy targets like 238U, 208Pb and 197Au. Binary, ternary and quaternary fission of the incident ions in reactions with the 12C of the detectors were also abserved.
Branching ratios of multipronged events induced by the heavy targets were determined, as were mass and folding angle distributions for the fission events induced by 12C.
KEYWORDS
(2.38 and 3.97 GeV) 238U • (238U, 208pb, 197Au) ÷ (3-, 4-, 5-, 6-pronqed events). Branching ratio deduced. 2.38 GeV 238U + 12C ÷ binary fission. 3.97 GeV 238U + 12C + binary-, ternaryand quaternary-fission. Mass yields and folding angles determined.
