โœฆ Synopsis

A series of reaction studies has recently been performed using less than 1 MeV per nucleon postaccelerated 6 He beams to induce reactions on proton and carbon targets. The p( 6 He, 4 He)t angular distribution obtained in this study allows a discrimination between coupled reaction channel and distorted wave Born approximation model predictions. Moreover, the generalised optical theorem for charged particles has been used to deduce the 6 He + 12 C total reaction cross section modelindependently (ฯƒ R = 1840 ยฑ 20 mb). As expected it is much greater than the value obtained from previously measured 6 Li+ 12 C data (ฯƒ R = 880 mb).
