Several years ago we reported the preparation of u,B-epoxysulfones and studied their thermal and acid-catalysed rearrangement. [7) We have now investigated the possibi7ity that these compounds might serve as useful intermediates in the preparation of a-substituted aldehydes and ketones according to the equation 1.
