✦ Synopsis

Thermal rate coeffrclents and product dlstributlons

for the reactrons of ground-and met&able-state Cl* tons with several neutral molecules have been studled usmg a selected ran flow tube (SIFT) apparatus.

In most cases, the mqor rcactlon channel 1s charge transfer In general, the metastable Ion reaction rates are fast, near gas-kmetic

Metastable excited CI' was recently reported by Rakshit in a study using the Aberystwyth SIFT apparatus. We conclude that this report refers to a mixture of Cl+ and HCl+, and that the results are hence erroneous. Our recent work using the same apparatus gives no evidence for excited Cl+.
