✦ Synopsis

The reaction of (t-BuGaC12)r with Ar'P(H)Li (Ar' = 2,4,6-t-Bu,C6H2) affords the chloride-bridged dimer [t-BuGa(C1)P(H)Ar'I2 (1). The structure of 1 has been established by X-ray crystallography. Compound 1, C44H7RClZGa2P2, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2{ln wit? Z = 2, a = 10.468(1), b = 14.967(1), c = 16.182(2) A, and /3 = 94.48(1)". The reaction of 1 with t-BuLi is described.

Such compounds represent a potentially new class of semiconductor precursor. Moreover, considerable interest is associated with the rich variety of possible structural forms, which includes analogues of cyclobutadiene, benzene, and cubane, as well as larger polyhedral arrangements. The present manuscript describes our first steps in this direction. Specifically, we describe the synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of the dimer (t-BuGa(Cl)P(H)Ar'), (1) (Ar' = 2,4,6-t-Bu3C6Hz) together with our attempts at dehydrochlorination
