✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Racemic glycidol and R(‐) glycidol butyrate were reacted with long‐chain aliphatic alcohols and a basic catalyst. From the mixtures of products naturally occurring glycerol ethers (selachyl alcohol, batyl alcohol) were isolated, and in smaller amounts ethers of diglycerol. The reaction mixtures were also alkylated with n‐decyl bromide and then separated into ethers of glycerol, diglycerol and triglycerol. An ether of a novel, chiral α,α'‐diglycerol is described, obtained from two three‐carbon units of R(‐) glycidol butyrate.
