AgC 6 F 5 is directly and quantitatively formed from room temperature reactions of AgF and Me 3 SiC 6 F 5 in N-donor solvents, particularly EtCN. Solutions of AgC 6 F 5 prepared by this method exhibit excellent oxidative properties in reactions with a variety of groups 12 to 16 elements giving the c

✦ Synopsis
Presented here are several examples which demonsrrate that ether substituenul a-oc fl-to an epoxide ring can be tolerated iu the ring-opening naction with B_keto ester dianicms. Subsequent acidpromoted cyclisariou of the y-hydroxy &ketoesters then leads to synthetically useful tetrahydrofurans, as demonstmted by application of this approach to the preparation of (i)-methyl nonactate and @)-methyl 8epi-nimaztate.
