✦ Synopsis


The reaction of aluminum clusters, Al, (n = 7-24), formed by laser vaporization, with oxygen and ammonia was studied by using a fast flow reactor. It was found that the oxygen reacts strongly with aluminum clusters to form chemisorbed products while ammonia is adsorbed weakly with Al, in a physisorbcd form. In the reaction with oxygen under multiple collision conditions, a mixed cluster, A&,0,, was found to be formed selectively.
