✦ Synopsis

A reaction of 4-acetoxy-7-methoxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one with DNA and nucleotldes was described. The N4 posltlon of the benzoxazlnone reacted with the C8 position of the guanlne residue of DNA and guanyllc acid. A group of 1,4-benzoxazln-3-ones was isolated from Job's tears, rye, wheat, and corn.' Derivatives of 2,4-dlhydroxy-1,4-benzoxazln-3-one occur as glycosldes from which the aglycones are rapidly released by enzymatic hydolysis after physical and blologlcal inJury of the plants.
