β¦ Synopsis
The old problem of reaching temperatures below 1 K with liquid helium II film traps and adsorption pumps has been tackled several times. 1,2,3,4,5 On the other hand, Staas and Severijns 6 have designed a sophisticated and elegant device using as a cooling method the interaction between the superfluid and the normal fluid flow through a capillary. Nevertheless, none reached temperatures below 0.7 K.
In this note we report the first reproducible results obtained with a new design of cryostat which includes an helium II film trap and a charcoal adsorption pump. In Fig. 1 a crosssection with the features of the new cryostat is shown.
