โœฆ Synopsis

The paper uses the contact patch test to assess both linear and quadratic elements in relation to straight and curved contact surfaces. A new contact formulation is proposed which uses a combination of linear and quadratic shape functions. The potential advantages of the new formulation are demonstrated.
