✦ Synopsis
Letter to the Editor: Re: "Chemotherapy for Infantile Fi brosarcoma" I write to support the conclusions of the two letters concerning "Chemotherapy for Infantile Fibrosarcoma" [1,2]. Our decision to observe our patient rather than submit hirn to mutilating surgery [ 3 ] was based on a very careful review of the published literature, and a fuller exposition of our conclusions is shortly to be published [4,51.
Briefly, our conclusion was that mutilating surgery was never indicated as primary treatment for infantile fibrosarcoma and that chemotherapy had an important role in two situations: firstly, to reduce tumour bulk and enable conservative surgery; secondly, in the treatment of recurrent disease or metastases.
There seems little doubt on the available evidence that chemotherapy has an important role in the treatment of infantile fibrosarcoma.
