✦ Synopsis

Two routes are discussed for forming wire from two superconducting oxides. Rapid quenching in the Y1Ba2Cu307_x system produces a glassy preform which flows in thermomechanical analysis up to 600 Β°C prior to crystallization. Rapid quenching in the Bi2SrzCazCu30 x system produces a glass which flows up to 800 Β°C. Inviscid spinning, an alternative to the glassy preform route, could potentially produce oxide wire directly from the melt in any oxide system.
