✦ Synopsis
A simple, sensitive method, requiring less than 1 ml of blood, is described for measurement of stable isotope enrichment in plasma lysine with a relative precision of better than 20.5% of the observed value. A measurement of whole body protein turnover obtained by this method was virtually identical to values obtained by more tedious macromethods. The speed of the reported procedure allows its application to routine clinical studies which generate a large number of samples.
